One crucial year in the life of Alina Shilova, a young Ukrainian woman born and raised in the poor suburbs of Kiev, who is torn between playing football and looking after her family Alina's life has always been based around playing football and she was considered for the Ukrainian national football team. Her coach knows she's talented but Alina is failing to live up to her potential.

Often Alina's mind is on other things – her alcoholic Mother has long been unable to look after her young brother and sister. After tragedy strikes the family, and with no alternatives, Alina becomes the main caregiver for her siblings, responsible for paying the bills and getting them ready for a crucial new school year. With football having to take a back seat, will Alina give up on her dreams forever?

The film is dedicated to People's Artist of Ukraine Stefan Turchak (1938-1988), an outstanding master of musical art in Ukraine, a world-renowned conductor who made a significant contribution to world music culture.

The war has devastated the Ukrainian town of Bucha, whose inhabitants have suffered unimaginable cruelty and suffering. If hope remains a faint glimmer, the will to survive still shines through in this film.

War crimes haunt the residents of Bucha years after the Russian occupation. And yet, amidst the bodies and ruins, they are united in their determination to move on with their lives. Children rehearse for school plays, widows rebuild their homes, and couples begin married life even as soldiers return to the front — perhaps never to return. Nothing can prepare people for life in a society shaped by war, and as time goes on, the fissures in communities become more and more apparent. Is democracy strong enough to keep people together?
