Oleksandr Krechet, a soldier, returns home after being seriously wounded to his hometown, where every corner reminds him of the peaceful life that was so abruptly cut short by the war. He feels an unbearable sense of survivor's guilt, because his best friend and brother-in-arms, Serhii Verba, died beside him. The image of Serhii, his voice, laughter, memories of moments spent together – all this settles in Oleksandr's mind, giving him no peace.
Trying to cope with his own pain in some way, Krechet decides to help the Verba family cope with their loss. He becomes their pillar of strength and support, trying to fill the void left after Serhii's death. But while helping others, Oleksandr gradually realises that he himself needs help. He understands that he cannot go on living locked in his own grief, that he needs to find a way to let go of the past and return to life.
Krechet begins to look for ways to heal, turns to a psychologist, talks to other veterans, trying to understand how they coped with similar traumas. He realises that the war has left deep scars not only on his body but also on his soul. And in order to return to a full life, he needs to heal these wounds.
