Chuhaister is a creature from exclusively Ukrainian mythology, whose image is not found in any of the beliefs of other Slavic peoples. A unique combination of demonic and mysterious origins (according to some beliefs, he is a peasant man enchanted by sorcerers, while according to others, he is a cursed forest whirlwind) has made the chugayster one of the legendary folklore symbols of the Ukrainian Carpathians, who also helps people and hunts other evil monsters. But are these beliefs really true, and what is actually behind this mythical creature, which was first mentioned in records from the early 20th century…

The autumn forest is a place where even experienced tourists, tired of the endless city hustle and bustle, can find peace of mind. With a sports backpack, tent, electronic lamp, flask of alcohol, and other survival gear, the man sets off on a hike and enters an area where, according to a wooden sign, the Chuhaister lives. Laughing at the probable scare tactic of the locals, the tourist walks past it and almost immediately finds an engraved hunting knife on the ground among the fallen leaves, which is unlikely to have been simply lost and not returned to be picked up. After setting up his tent and preparing for the night, the man encounters both a time loop of unknown spatial origin and the Chuhaister himself, who turns out to be not at all a cheerful spirit from old Hutsul legends…
