Ira and Manya are friends; they rent a flat together in Kyiv. Ira is an activist and the organiser of a charity supporting children and palliative care patients. Manya is her closest friend and also a volunteer — the two girls work and live together.

Ira’s father, Oleksandr, comes to visit her and her friends from another city. The three of them spend a week together. Ira and Mana’s lives are clearly organised, like those of people who know each other’s habits and needs well, and any interference is not sustainable eventually.

Morning exercises, treatments, breakfast, working at the computer – the same monotonous routine day in, day out. The father longs for a moment of closeness with his daughter. After all, he doesn’t know when they’ll meet again. He looks forward to when they go to the hairdresser’s, when he takes photos of the girls on the amusement ride at the shopping centre, when he’s mashing hot potatoes in the kitchen . . .

It is finally time for Oleksandr to return home. His daughter and father say their goodbyes. One evening, Ira is left all alone.

In February 2021, a fire broke out at the Zaporizhzhia Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, instantly destroying the intensive care unit where Covid patients were being treated. A young doctor, Olha Hliva, died in the fire along with three of her patients.

This is an investigative film by Suspilne that tells the story of a doctor who died saving patients during the pandemic. The film sheds light on the chilling secrets of Ukrainian medicine. It also exposes new threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which neither hospital management nor officials have been able to cope with so far.
