In 1991, members of the Ukrainian diaspora from Canada and the United States travelled to their homeland. They promoted the ideals of democracy and urged people to vote in favour of Ukrainian independence in the referendum. 

The film is based on these people’s memories and their personal archives. The unique footage includes the first rallies against Soviet rule, clashes with the security forces, exclusive accounts from those who took part in the events, and a glimpse into life in Soviet Ukraine at the time, with all its hardships, fears and absurdities.

This is a story about how freedom is not just a right, but also a responsibility. And the actions of one ordinary person can truly change the course of history. The film explores little-known aspects of events that everyone is familiar with: the struggle for Ukraine’s independence in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and recounts the role played by the Ukrainian diaspora in these processes.

The television series talks about how Bogdan, now a taxi driver, in the past – a racing driver, decides to restore justice on his own. It all started after Bogdan's wife died in a car crash. The perpetrator of the accident was not punished because his wealthy parents did everything to bring the case to the brakes. Bogdan decides to deal with the offender on his own, and the culprit of the deadly road accident is behind bars. However, Bohdan was almost imprisoned, he received a suspended sentence for bodily harm.

Together with Bogdan, police captain Marina Yevtushenko defends justice. Unlike Bogdan, whose methods she does not like, she acts in accordance with the letter of the law.
