From calling the police and living in a shelter to rediscovering themselves, these women find the courage to embark on this journey for their own sake and for that of their children.

The film was produced with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Ukraine as part of the EMBRACE project to combat and prevent gender-based violence, with support from the UK Government.

Genre DramaWar

Director Oleksandr Tіmenko

The war destroyed Yurii's happy family in a terrible way: his father, grandfather and younger sister were killed in enemy shelling. One day, his mother realised that in his hometown, Yuriy was in danger of being taken to Russia by the occupiers. For her son's sake, she made the most difficult decision of her life — to tear her child away from her so that he could escape and live in safety with relatives in Estonia. She stays at home, in the basement of their house, to take care of her sick grandmother.

Alone, with his mother's phone number on his back, Yuriy will make his way to the safety of the border: by train, by car, with the military in an APC, under fire and in occupied cities, finding a short rest with kind people. The power of love will guide him through the war. And all along the way, he will remember his mother's words: “As long as you live, I will live.”
