Odessa, 1980. Kostik Voloshin (27) has a dream to escape across the border because he doesn’t want to build socialism. Kostik leads a double life – a position at the Research Institute serves as a cover for his fraudulent activity, in which Kostik is an absolute professional.
Fleeing from the violence of a steep card dealer, Gogi, to whom he owed a large sum, he goes to Odessa, where he came from. His goal is to earn a decent amount as quickly as possible to leave the country. Our hero commits all scams under the cover of Balaban (45), who is known in all of Odessa. Balaban helps Kostik for one reason – twenty years ago, he could not expose people who substituted Kostik’s father. The father was charged with grand larceny of state property, and he died of a heart attack because he could not survive the shame.
However, Balaban’s best friend and protector becomes his number one enemy when Kostya learns that he was behind the slander that resulted in the death of his father. And now Balaban is going to make Kostik leave the city, because he is not going to share with him the woman he loves, Maya, who has developed a whirlwind affair with Kostik. Kostik decides to make Balaban pay for the blood of his father by all means.

After the death of his father, Vlad Rudych wants to move from a small village in the mountains to the city to enter an economic university, but his older brother Stepan is categorically against it.
