A mother learns that she is seriously ill with cancer. Meanwhile, the son receives an invitation to participate in a festival. When he learns of his mother's illness, he begins preparing for the festival in order to win the money needed for her treatment.

On the outskirts of Odesa, Ukraine, stands Kuyalnyk Sanatorium—a large 1970s building that’s part hotel and part medical retreat. Each summer, thousands of Ukrainians travel to the sanatorium, drawn by Soviet-era therapies and the chance to relax beside the salt lake. The biggest attraction, though, is the mysterious black mud, which is said to cure infertility, physical disabilities, and various other ailments. 

Sanatorium takes us through a summer season at this unusual place, following the staff as they work hard to provide care, comfort, and entertainment for visitors—even as the war rages nearby. For the guests, it's a time to seek healing, love, and renewal. Despite the airstrikes close by, there’s something about the pastel pink and lime green halls of the sanatorium that keeps drawing people back. Maybe it’s the hope of rejuvenation, or maybe it’s something hidden in the mud...

Actions take place in a village far removed from civilization. The main characters are a married couple and a boy who lives with his grandmother.

Local residents talk daily about household chores. And at the same time, there is a world of unusual young people who enjoy nature and do not see the earthly problems that the locals see, as old women think. For a young couple, this is a new experience and a new life. A young man, an engineer by education, shares with his boyfriend the idea of ​​a unique new home, balanced in functionality and naturalness. She gives the boy some advice on the balance of his plane's flight, which constantly crashes upon launch. But in a new world of dreams of a young couple comes war - a young man is taken to the ATO zone…
