A documentary featuring testimonies from people who remember the 1933 famine in Ukraine.

The Holodomor was a mass-scale, man-made famine organised in the Ukrainian SSR in 1932–1933 by the leadership of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and the government of the USSR. Ukraine was the hardest hit, with millions of people dying of starvation. This famine has been recognised as genocide against the Ukrainian people. According to demographic estimates, the total number of victims of the Holodomor in the Ukrainian SSR is 3–7 million people. According to estimates by the M. Ptukha Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine’s demographic losses as a result of the Holodomor in 1932–1933 amount to approximately 4.5 million people, including 3.9 million due to excess mortality and a further 600,000 due to a birth deficit.

Karolina, a young Polish woman, sets off on a journey through Volhynia, where her family comes from. Her relatives were murdered in the so-called Volhynian massacre in 1943. This trauma constantly hurts. Karolina wanders on foot, accompanied by a Ukrainian cameraman Oleksandr. They talk with the inhabitants of Volhynia about past events.

It is a film about crumbs of goodness, about memory and coming to terms with one's own past. It is the voice of the young generation in the process of Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation.

A documentary video essay that introduces viewers to Volodymyr Ivasiuk (1949–1979), a young, creative, and stylish musician, as well as his songs, which in their day changed the game in the music world and still sound unbeatable today.

And although everyone has heard his ‘Chervona Ruta’, unfortunately, very few people are familiar with the rest of his body of work, which comprises around 100 songs and 50 instrumental pieces.

The film features the following speakers: musician Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, Volodymyr Ivasiuk’s younger sister Halyna Ivasiuk, poet Bohdan Stelmakh, music journalist Phil Pukhariev, psychologist and psychotherapist Volodymyr Stanchyshyn, conductor of the Chernivtsi Philharmonic Yosyp Sozanskyi, and Yurii Melnychuk.
