In 1947, two Ukrainians enter the Gulag. The main character is UPA soldier Danilo Krasnyi. Another Ukrainian is Viktor Gurov, a Soviet pilot from Chernihiv, whose plane was shot down over enemy positions and is considered a prisoner of captivity. Gurov considers Stalin a hero and believes that the military court was wrong. Both heroes must go through hell and inhumane conditions of hard labor, the pursuit of criminal leaders, meanness, betrayal and despair.

Daniel finds the strength to resist the repression of the camp commander and makes a desperate attempt to break free by raising his first uprising in the camp.
