The film offers a unique glimpse into the events that took place during and after World War II in the Eastern European region of Galicia. It pays tribute to the unknown heroes of that war, the regular people who rose above fear and prejudice to do what was right instead of what was easy: Olia Ilkiv, a Ukrainian resistance fighter who endured the theft of her children to save her country, Aharon Weiss, a Jewish man whose family chose to save the life of their worst enemy and Stanislav Bartminski, a Polish priest who took it upon himself to overcome the hatred that tore at his parish.

Filmmakers Olha Onyshko, a native of Lviv, Ukraine, and Sarah Farhat, a native of Beirut, Lebanon, traveled throughout Western Ukraine and Eastern Poland over a period of four years. In this region shrouded by speculation and controversy due to its untold history, they discovered an amazing wealth of stories that had been hidden from not only the West, but also from families.

A pirate who becomes the founder of the most powerful fleet in the world. A slave trader who fights for freedom. A gardener's son who takes care of the king's daughter. A rear admiral who fraternises with the Cossacks. A hero of three states who dies in obscurity. His unmarked grave is found 100 years later, his remains are transported across the ocean and buried under a marble sarcophagus as a US national hero. The film takes place in a boarding school for the blind, deaf and dumb children located on the river bank. The teacher of the school Alexey falls in love with a young practitioner of Lika who came to study the development of intimate relationships in children. They are opening up this forbidden sphere to young residents of a dormitory, which is causing a storm that makes one forget about tranquility, manifesting characters and relationships that will never be the same again.
