Simon Petliura (1879-1926) is an amazing figure in history. He was born and studied in Poltava. The gifted young man plunged into the political movement at an early age. Lviv and Kyiv, Moscow and St Petersburg - this is where he spent his youth. He returned to Kyiv in 1917 with his wife and daughter.

The events unfold at the end of the XX century. In the village of Teklivka, two days before the first of May, the Founder, a woman who was the first head of the collective farm many years ago, dies. Lina's daughter decides to bury her according to Christian custom on the third day, and this falls on the first of May. The head of a rural asset, a supporter of the revival of the Soviet Union, is outraged by this decision and forces Lina to bury her mother another day. The thing is that in the village, namely in the asset, the First of May is set to be celebrated with a festive Mayavka. The Founder's funeral becomes a symbolic event and turns from the burial of the dead to the burial of human folly.
