21 June 1941. Not far from the border zone lies an ordinary village, whose inhabitants are all merrily celebrating the wedding of the village head’s daughter, Olena, and Hryhoriy, the village’s leading young man. Their parents, old friends Petro and Vasyl, have decided to form an alliance and marry their children.
But Hryhoriy loves another girl – Dasha. And Olena herself is loved by Hryhoriy’s brother – Ivan…
The day after the wedding, war breaks out. The men go to the front, the women are left alone, and all their petty quarrels immediately seem pointless and trivial. Because now they must support one another and survive, so that their husbands, sons, and fathers have someone to return to from the battlefield.
War destroys people’s plans, shatters destinies, and tears lovers apart. Many things suddenly lose their meaning, because people must hurry to live, hurry to love – tomorrow may be too late…
