The documentary drama traces the life of one of the most prominent rulers of Ukrainian history — Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise of Kyiv. The creators will show how the lame man, who was bullied by his brothers as a child, turned into a powerful ruler who united the lands of Rus around Kyiv and created a powerful state in medieval Europe, and reveal unknown details of Yaroslav's fateful marriage to the Swedish princess Ingigerda. Together, the princely couple implemented a matrimonial policy of marrying their children to descendants of other European royal families, which resulted in three daughters of Yaroslav the Wise becoming queens of three countries — Norway, France, and Hungary.

A significant part of the film is devoted to how Kievan Rus built strong ties with the most powerful states of Europe at that time in the eleventh century.
