Six short stories linked by the recurring theme of the Great War, which cannot be fully grasped in a single narrative. It is found in all manifestations of death and the thirst for life, in the grief for what has been lost and the joy of the survivors, in the relationships between friends and enemies, parents and children, people and animals — between entire worlds.

‘VIPs’ — the last day of peace (23 February 2022), when a large family is getting ready for an anniversary, not yet realising that tomorrow the war will wipe out all their usual plans.

‘Mariupol’ — an animated short film based on an English teacher’s diary about the first days of the city’s siege.

‘Borshchik’ follows a bohemian couple from Kyiv who find themselves trapped in an occupied holiday cottage, where the news of a pregnancy intertwines with the absurdity of survival.

‘Leave’ — a story about a soldier who returns home for a short period of rehabilitation.

‘Shahid-2008’ — a story about teenagers in wartime Kyiv, whose summer is filled with music, tattoos, first love and air-raid alerts.

‘Two Fates’ — a story about two sisters separated by war, who stay in touch every day despite the distance and anxiety.

A homeless man from Russia named Slavik, he finds himself in Gogol's places near Sorochintsy. There he meets Ninka, who agrees to shelter him for the winter. In time, he will have to face the mystical features of this village and the mysterious personality of the hostess.

Zheka, from a provincial town, lives all alone and sees no prospects for his future. He buried his ambitious dreams of making it big a long time ago and now only raps at local weddings from time to time. 

His life changes in an instant when he learns of the existence of his eight-year-old daughter in the capital. Zheka sets off for Kyiv to prove to her that he is worthy of being a father, but accidentally stumbles upon the auditions for a major music show.  

The glossy and cynical world of television becomes his only chance to be heard by his own daughter, to make amends for past mistakes and to find true love.
