A teenager was murdered on graduation night at a college for gifted children. English teacher Ariadna Shagalova is suspected of the crime, as she had had a falling-out with the boy the day before the school celebration. But as the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that virtually everyone at the school — teachers, parents and pupils — is in some way connected to what happened on graduation night.

The English teacher is defended by the father of the deceased boy—a lawyer with a notorious reputation. However, the protagonist does not feel guilty and is prepared to stand her ground, despite the suspicions.
