The Tower of Silence (Der Turm des Schweigens, Germany, 1925) is one of the few surviving films by Johannes Guter, starring Ukrainian-born actress Ksenia Desni, a native of Oster in the Kyiv region. In 1921, Desni (then known as Dada) signed a contract with the German film industry giant UFA, and in 1924 she starred in the film "Jump to Life", in the mass of which appeared then still unknown Marlene Dietrich. Desni gained fame in Europe, where she became a real star of German cinema in the second half of the 1920s.
