The film tells the story of Nina Branovytska, the mother of Ukrainian soldier Ihor Branovytskyi, one of the defenders of Donetsk Airport. In 2015, Ihor was captured during the withdrawal from the airport. He was tortured and executed by a leader of pro-Russian militants while being in captivity. The film follows Nina’s long and ongoing search for truth and justice.

Nina’s story is a reminder that Russian war crimes against Ukrainians began long before the full-scale invasion of 2022 and have a systemic nature. Today, thousands of women and men are still waiting for their loved ones to return from brutal Russian captivity, continuing their fight to achieve justice for those who were tortured and to hold those responsible accountable.
