Anna Volodymyrivna Smoliy, producer, director, screenwriter

Born on March 26, 1986, in Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduated from IAPM with the major of Manager of External Economic Activity. In 2006 was enrolled at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University in the specialty of Feature Film Directing (Ya.O. Lanchak Workshop). In 2011 graduated from the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University with the major in Feature Film Directing. Graduation work is the short film “Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes”. In 2015 finished the course of screenwriting at the London Film Academy. That same year received the grand-prix at the contest “Kinoscrypt”. She has been a member of the Ukrainian Film Academy and the Directors Guild of Ukraine since 2019. In 2020 won first place at the contest “Coronation of the Word 2020” in the category “Short Film Script”. Short films by Anna Smoliy were shown at numerous international and Ukrainian film festivals, and gained appreciation from the audience.

2019 - “Who Built Serpent’s Wall”, educational TV film, screen time 52 min. Filmed with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

2018 – TV series “Na Grani” and “Rechdok”, director, screen time of one episode is 42 min.

2017 – “Intent”, psychological drama, short film, screen time 28 min. Filmed at the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency.

2017 – “Ladybug”, romantic comedy, short film, screen time 21 min. (2017, premiered at the international festival Grenz-Land Filmtage Selb -42, Germany). The script of the “Ladybug” won grand-prix at the contest “Kinoscrypt”, 1st place at the festival of screen arts “Pilgrim”, and 3d place at the film festival “Kinokimeria”. Besides, it won the prize for the best camera work at the film festival “Povitria 2018”. 2014 – “Ukrmama”, documentary, screen time 25 min.

2012 – “Yellow Fir Trees”, video poetry, screen time 5 min.

2011 – “Pretty Mouth & Green My Eyes”, graduation work, screen time 27 min. Reviewer – Ihor Hrabovych, 1 + 1 studio.
