Biography

Ukrainian film director and philosopher of law, a native of Transcarpathia. Educated in law, English, sociology and philosophy at leading universities in Ukraine and abroad, Vyacheslav Bihun gained a wealth of experience in legal practice, civic activity and journalism, and worked as a lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He later studied film directing at the Sorbonne (adaptation of literature and political cinema) and the Baltic Film School, gaining practical skills in all major areas of filmmaking. Already as a film maker and film-school-educated film director, he has filmed in Ukraine, Georgia, Estonia and France, making both fictions and documentaries that have been nominated at more than 100 film festivals and won over 50 awards. One of the first Ukrainian filmmakers whose film works (not music videos) gained millions of views on the Internet. He actively develops the stream "Law and Cinema". He is specialist in copyright laws, in particular in the field of collective copyright management (responsible for the successful negotiation and signing of international agreements, in particular with the DGA and WGA, among others). He is also well known for the active promotion of Ukrainian cinema. One of the founders and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Guild of Directors - the voice of the directing profession. Vyacheslav Bihun supported the demand for the release of his colleague Oleg Sentsov and other Kremlin prisoners, made the film "Strong in Spirit", and joined for 18 days the hunger strike in solidarity. He holds a Master of Film Arts degree (EU), Master of Laws (US) and a PhD in law (Ukraine). Professionally versed in several foreign languages.
