Polish Film Academy honors Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov with a special award - Eagle for "Courage and Unbreakability"
The award was presented by the head of the Polish Film Academy Dariusz Jablonski, reports his own correspondent Ukrinform. Speaking at the ceremony, renowned filmmaker Agnieszka Holland said that Sentsow could continue to rely on the Polish film community.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Andriy Deshchytsa thanked the cinematographers of this country for their support, noting that without constant reminding of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners they would not be able to be released.
“What you do as artists is spreading this information to the whole world - it has helped us a lot in the negotiations and the pressure, which is proving to be effective. As a result, this led to the release of Oleg and it showed that together, together, we can succeed, ”Deschytsya emphasized.
Vice Marshal of the Sejm Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska noted that Sentsov's period of imprisonment was also a time of trial for many Poles: how much they were prepared to stand in solidarity with others. She recalled that it was the Polish Academy of Cinema that signaled the need to support Sentsov and Ukrainian political prisoners, and the Seimas adopted a special resolution on this matter.
Sentsov thanked for the award, stressing that freedom is the greatest value on earth. And to own it, you have to be prepared to pay everything you have.
