Loznica plans to continue the "line" of documentaries
Four films were shown in the Latvian capital on the second day of the Artdokfest festival, which is part of the Riga International Film Festival (RIFF), including the work of Ukrainian director Sergiy Loznitsa about Stalin's funeral.
Sergei Loznitsa's picture "State Funerals" about Stalin's last journey lasts more than two hours. He created it from 35 hours of unique archival material that he found at the State Archive of Film and Photo Chronicles in Krasnogorsk (RF). The selected frames are processed with modern technologies, which ensures high image quality.
After the viewing, a kind of creative meeting with the Ukrainian director took place.
Responding to a question, Loznica said that he had plans to continue the "line" of documentary. And besides the picture "Babi Yar", which he has already described, he wants to make a film about the first year of the Soviet-German war - 1941's.
Four ribbons will also be shown on the third day of Artdokfest on Wednesday. Among them is the Ukrainian-Polish picture of director Yuri Shilov's Panorama. Her character worked as a cinematographer at the Panorama Cinema in Kyiv for 44 years and is trying to find a new meaning in life after a fire.
Eva Kachansky's Polish film "Required Program" tells the story of a family of Ukrainian wage earners in Warsaw. The family have not found a good job, but their 10-year-old daughter has turned out to be a good figure skater and she is very much in need of a prize in the national championship.
This year, the festival's international jury included Ukrainian film director, screenwriter and producer Roman Balayan, Deutsche Welle journalist Jeanne Nemtsova and Latvian film expert Abram Klyotskin.
