Atlantis and Home: Viennale will screen Ukrainian cinema

The special Austrian cinema program will be presented for the first time at the largest Austrian Viennale Film Festival, which will take place from October 24 to November 6

The audience will be shown four of the latest Ukrainian tapes that have already won international recognition. The Ukrainian program will introduce viewers to the work of a new generation of Ukrainian directors: it includes the prize-winners of the Venice, Karlovy Vary and the Odessa Film Festival. All films that will be screened at Viennale - Home, Atlantis, My Thoughts, Daddy - Mom's Brother - made with state support.

According to Derzhkino, the drama "Home" directed by Nariman Aliyev claims the European Film Academy Award and represents Ukraine as a national Oscar nominee in the "International Feature Film" category. The world premiere of the film, created with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, took place in the Cannes Film Festival's "Special Look" program. In Ukraine, the film was honored with the Grand Prix of the Odessa Film Festival - "Golden Duke", which is awarded by the results of the audience voting.

The world premiere of the anti-Utopia "Atlantis", created with the support of Derzhkino "Atlantis", was held as part of the official competition program "Horizons" of the Venice Film Festival, where the film was marked as the best film of the section. Atlantis has also been featured in the Contemporary World Cinema program of the Toronto International Film Festival and as part of a special showcase of the Ukrainian Institute and the Odessa International Film Festival for international selectors and distributors.

The comedy "My Thoughts is Quiet" is the directorial feature film directed by Antonio Lukic. The film was also created with the support of the State Film Agency of Ukraine. For the first time "My Thoughts Quiet" was shown in the East of West section of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where the film was awarded the Special Jury Prize. The Ukrainian premiere took place at the Odessa International Film Festival, where Lukich's work received the Audience Award, the FIPRESCI Award for Best Ukrainian Film, the Best Actor Award (Irma Vitovskaya) and a special jury mention (Andriy Lidagovsky).

The world premiere of Vadim Ilkov's Dad-Mom Brother documentary was held at the Visions du Réel European Documentary Film Festival in Nyon, Switzerland, where the film produced with the support of Derzhkino received the prize as the most innovative film in the international competition program. At the Odessa Film Festival "Dad - Mom's Brother", the awards for the best Ukrainian feature film and the best Ukrainian director were awarded.

Viennale - An annual film festival that has been held in Vienna since 1960, the festival audience is more than 90 thousand viewers. In 2019, the festival runs from October 24 to November 6. The Ukrainian program at Viennale is organized by the Ukrainian Institute in conjunction with Arthouse Traffic Company within the framework of the bilateral Year of Culture Austria-Ukraine 2019.
