The first Forum of Screenwriters will be held in Ukraine

15 September 2021

The rapid development of the media industry dictates new requirements for both content and the work of screenwriters. The interaction of the most important parts of the production process and the changes taking place in the modern film and television industry will be discussed at the first Writers' Forum. The event is organized by Star Media together with the Ukrainian Television Academy and the Screenwriters Guild.

Any movie or series starts with an idea and a script. What will be the final product, how relevant and original is its theme, whether it will find its audience and whether the project will be successful - the answers to all these questions are formed in the early stages.

The new reality in which the world lives requires a new quality of content and the satisfaction of increasingly demanding and diverse tastes of the audience. To move forward, we need to respond not only to the demands of traditional film and television, but also to streaming platforms that are actively developing and have their own content features and scripting requirements. Global trends also apply to the domestic media market: Ukrainian screenwriters must work in an international context and respond to new approaches to content.

According to the organizers, the first Screenwriters Forum will bring together key market players and launch a series of specialized events to improve the skills of the screenwriting community, its status, establish a direct dialogue between the customer and the screenwriter and learn about world experience.

The main purpose of the Forum is to organize regular meetings and discussions of screenwriters for:

  • formation of a professional community of screenwriters, discussion of problems of the screenwriting community and ways to solve them;
  • establishing cooperation with representatives of other creative communities: producers of channels, productions, directors, actors, etc .;
  • raising the status of the screenwriter and the script as an important part of the filming process;
  • cooperation with state bodies in the field of culture and cinema on behalf of the community of screenwriters of Ukraine;
  • conducting cultural and educational activities aimed at improving the skills of screenwriters.

Topics to be covered at the first Screenwriters Forum:

  • launching a series of specialized activities for the script community;
  • establishing a direct dialogue between the customer and the screenwriter;
  • acquaintance of screenwriters with the most successful international projects of 2020-2021.
