Yuriy Garmash received the Golden Jig Award for his contribution to the development of Ukrainian cinema
This year's awards ceremony began with a welcome speech by Ukrainian Minister of Culture Yevhen Nishchuk. “Cinematography is the art that saves, is eternal, and which, in fact, is meant to give hope. We do not know what tomorrow will be like, but today is the movie night, the evening of the third Golden Jig ceremony. So there is hope! ”, –– he said.
The guests of the ceremony were greeted by the Director of the European Film Academy, producer of the European Film Award Marion Doring.
“I am very glad that we gathered at this ceremony today. The movies we make allow us to make the world a better place. Thanks to our work, people get to know different countries, cultures, mentalities. This is necessary for all of us to avoid any conflict, ”said Marion Doring.
Afterwards, the audience was greeted by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Film Academy and the President of the Odessa International Film Festival Victoria Tihipko.
“I would like to thank all our film academics and everyone involved in film production in Ukraine. Today, you are contributing not only to the development of film culture, but also to the development of national dignity and consciousness. Now it is very important for Ukrainians, ”said Victoria Tigipko. She also reminded that the Ukrainian Film Academy is growing rapidly - now it has 355 members, which is 46 participants more than last year. Victoria Tihipko also noted that almost 35% of our Film Academy is women, which is 2% more than last year, which is a good trend.
The first distinction of this year's ceremony - "Golden Jig" for contribution to the development of Ukrainian cinema - was received by Ukrainian cinematographer Yuriy Garmash. From the stage, he thanked his educators, directors, film crews, and everyone who made it to the cinema. “Two years ago, as I was celebrating my 70th birthday, I heard various greetings from friends. Receiving another unrealistic wish, I mentioned the famous Hollywood cameraman Conrad Hall, who received his first Oscar in 72 years. Then I joked that I had two more years. It turns out that not only dreams come true, but also jokes, ”Yuriy Garmash added.
The award was presented by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavel Rozenko. He noted: “Now, some say that state support for cinema funding is not needed, because cinema is a business. Of course, I have to express our opinion on this. We will not be able to develop without state support today. No short films, no animation, no documentary, no other genres. We very much look forward to the support and look forward to new acting, directing and cameraman work next year. "
After that, the ceremony continued with a musical performance by the trio, whose voices became the soundtrack of the movie Mountain Woman in War (nominees for this year's Golden Jigsaw Film Awards). A group of girls specially created for the performance was named “Erlingbend” in honor of the director of the film.
The honesty and credibility of the results of the voting was confirmed by the auditing and consulting company Kreston GCG, which is the official auditor of the Third National Film Award.
