According to the announcement of the Ukrainian Oscar Committee:
"The Oscar Committee of Ukraine begins accepting applications for national films in the selection for the Oscar of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the category" International Feature Film "from Ukraine.
Applications will be accepted from August 25 to September 8. From 25 August to 8 September, the Committee will consult cinematographers on the submission of films for consideration.
The nominated film must meet the following parameters:
1. It must be a full-length feature, documentary or animated film (at least 40 minutes) shot outside the United States.
2. The dominant language of the film should not be English.
3. The film must be released for commercial distribution between January 1, 2021 and no later than December 31, 2021, which lasted at least 7 consecutive days.
4. Films that have a scheduled theatrical release, but were initially available on reputable commercial streaming or custom-made video services, may be eligible for consideration in the "International Feature Film" category of the 94th Academy Awards provided the Academy is provided with documentation (original (and ) document (s) and translation into English) on the dates of closure of the cinema / halls set by the government, pre-planned cinema release and streaming distribution agreements or video to order.

In 2021, the Ukrainian Oscar Committee set the following dates for the selection of national films:
- August 25, 2021 - September 8, 2021 - acceptance of applications for participation in the competition
- September 9, 2021 - September 23, 2021 - consideration of applications by the committee
- September 24, 2021 - committee meeting and announcement of competition results
The 94th Academy Awards for Cinematography in 2021 will be held on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles.
