The program of the 78th Venice Film Festival, which will take place from September 1 to 11, includes a new film "Reflection" by Ukrainian director Valentyn Vasyanovych. The film tells the story of a volunteer doctor who, after returning from captivity, tries to adapt to a peaceful life. He is in contact with his ex-wife and his 12-year-old daughter, who was also injured in the death of a loved one in the war.
The premiere of the film "Rhinoceros" directed by Oleg Sentsov will take place in the competition program "Horizons" and will be the closing film of the section. The history of the film is based on real events of the 90s in Ukraine. The protagonist, nicknamed the Rhinoceros, enters the criminal world and begins his bloody path, which will lead him not where he expected.
The Horizons competition program also includes the film "Censor" by Peter Kerekesh, a joint production of Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The film tells the story of a young woman Lesya, who was sentenced to imprisonment in a correctional facility in Odessa. She has just given birth to her first child and has entered a world inhabited only by women: prisoners, nurses and caretakers, women of all ages, wives and widows, daughters, sisters, pregnant women and women with children. If not for the color of the uniform, sometimes it would be difficult to say who is who.
Another Ukrainian film project, Pamfir, directed by Dmytro Sukholytsky-Sobchuk, which is in the post-production stage, will take part in the Venice Market Bridge film market at the 78th Venice Film Festival. The film became one of 30 feature film projects from around the world that were selected to participate in the film market.
