Winners of Docudays UA-2021

The 18th Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival has announced the winners.

The online award ceremony of the 18th Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, hosted by Angelina Karyakina and Maksym Shcherbyna, took place on April 2.

Traditionally, films at Docudays UA competed in DOCU / WORLD, DOCU / UKRAINE and DOCU / SHORT competitions. One of the ten nominated films received the RIGHTS NOW! Award. It was presented to a creative documentary that explores the modern world and makes a significant contribution to the discussion of human dignity, freedom and equality. The student jury also chose its favorite. In addition, they identified the film - the winner of the audience's sympathy. Separately, the organizers of the festival awarded a special distinction and a prize named after Andriy Matrosov to two Ukrainian ribbons.

The main prize of the DOCU/UKRAINE competition was won by the film "Land of Ivan" by Andriy Lysetsky "for a penetrating portrait of the artist Ivan Prykhodko".

A special award of the DOCU/UKRAINE competition was given to Semyon Mozgovy's film "Salt from Bonneville" ("Observing the journey of persistent motorcyclists traveling from Kyiv to Utah to test what their self-assembled motorcycle is capable of turns Salt from Bonneville into an incredible cinematic achievement").

A special award from Current Time TV in the amount of $ 5,000 was given to the tape "This Rain Will Never End", dir. Alina Gorlova ("for a monumental work of art that immerses the viewer in the monochrome of eternal existence between black and white; for the archetypal image of the constant presence of war and a subtle image of the fragility of human life" the author received a financial reward of $ 5,000); award in $ 2000 - "Expedition 49", dir. Alice Kovalenko.

"For the fusion of high professionalism, childlike sincerity and love in depicting the relationship between nature and people. For respect and delicacy in the study of the invisible energies of the earth and the genus that live in each of us ", the organizers of Docudays UA awarded the film "Be far - be good " directed by Anna Yaroshevich with the prize in memory of the festival producer Andriy Matrosov. Irena Stetsenko's film “Roses. Cabaret film": "for the example of life in creativity and the powerful energy of the pursuit of perfection"

A special prize of the student jury was awarded to the film "Salt from Bonneville" by Semyon Mozgovy.

All the winners received these awards by the artist and sculptor Serhiy Borodin: transparent cubes, inside each of which is a real carpet from Anatoliy Surma's cartoons. As well as a cash prize of $ 1,000.

According to the press service of Docudays UA, a total of 105 films were watched during the festival week. There were 30 online events, as well as 249 individual meetings between foreign and Ukrainian documentarians in the DOCU / PRO section. All 18 Docudays UA films are accompanied by adapted subtitles for the hearing impaired, and 9 films have a sound description for the blind.
