12 October 2020

The program of the Kharkiv International Film Festival Kharkiv Meet Docs was announced by the organizers on October 12 at a press conference in Kyiv's Fedoriv Hub.

This year the festival will run from October 26 to 31 and will be held in a mixed online and offline format. The online part will take place from 26 to 29 October. The offline part will take place in Kharkiv from October 29 to 31.

The program includes 2 world premieres, 4 Ukrainian and 8 from Kharkiv. In total, 25 full-length and 47 short films will be presented at the festival.

For the first time in the framework of the Kharkiv MeetDocs film festival, the National Competition of feature-length documentaries made in Ukraine or in co-production will be held online. Each film will be available for viewing for two days. The winner is determined by a jury consisting of director and playwright Natalia Vorozhbyt, director Serhiy Bukovsky and film manager, member of the Council for State Support of Cinematography Lyudmila Gordeladze. The winner of the audience sympathy prize will also be determined by spectator voting.

Also, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, a children's social video competition and a Ukrainian short independent film competition "Bardak" will be held for the second time.

The offline part of the film festival will take place in Kharkiv from October 29 to 31 with the support of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinematography.

On October 31, the Great Hall of the Theater and Concert Center (25 Sumska Street) will host for the third time the pitching of documentary feature films (Ukraine or co-production).

The out-of-competition program included 12 feature and documentary films.

The opening film on October 29 will be Valentin Vasyanovich's «Atlantis», which was selected by Ukraine as a nominee for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The film will be presented by the director and lead actors Andriy Rymaruk, Lyudmyla Bileka and Vasyl Antonyak. The director will also hold a public talk for Kharkiv residents on the eve.

The closing film will be «Numbers» by Oleg Sentsov and Akhtem Seitablaev. The world premiere of the film, which Sentsov worked on in a Russian prison, took place this year at the Berlin Film Festival. In addition, Akhtem Seitablaev will hold a creative meeting and talk about the combination of directing and acting.

Darya Onyschenko's films «Forgotten» and Mantas Kvedaravičius' «Parthenon» are included in the MeetNonDocs game section.

The non-competitive documentary program includes films that will be shown for the first time in Ukraine.
