«Blindfolded» will be shown at the «A» class film festival

Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema reports that the world premiere of Blindfold, directed by Taras Dron, will take place at the Warsaw Film Festival. The film was selected for the international debut film competition!


The Warsaw Film Festival is the largest film festival in Eastern Europe. It will take place offline from October 9 to 18. The winner will receive a Warsaw Grand Prix and a cash prize of PLN 100,000. 15 more films were included in the international competition program together with the Ukrainian film "Blindfolded".


Taras Dron's debut feature film "Blindfolded" is made in the genre of psychological sports drama. The events of the film unfold in modern Ukraine after the war. The main character - Julia - a young athlete fighting without rules, MMA, who lost her fiancé in the war. The girl quits sports and starts a new relationship to free herself from the role of the widow of a war hero imposed on her by society.


Taras Dron is a Ukrainian film director, a member of the Ukrainian Film Academy and the European Film Academy, a participant and winner of many Ukrainian and international film festivals. The film is produced by Valeria Sochyvets. In 2015, Valeria founded the organization "СUС" (Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema), which aims to promote Ukrainian cinema. As a producer she has created more than 10 documentaries and feature films.


It is extremely valuable to the film crew that the premiere will take place in Warsaw, as the film's director Taras Dron studied at the Lodz Film School, and the cinematographer Oleksandr Pozdnyakov (winner of the «Golden Jig» Ukrainian Film Academy Award for "Live fire ") is currently completing his doctorate at this film school. In addition, the script was written in collaboration with Polish filmmaker Jakub Prysak, "says producer Valeria Sochyvets.


The main role in the film was played by Ukrainian young actress Maryna Koshkina, known for the films "Forgotten" by Daria Onishchenko and "Zakhar Berkut" by Akhtem Seitablaev.


The film was produced by Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Lviv Regional Administration, Davydov Village United Territorial Community, Lviv City Council and co-producer Oleksandr Berba, owner of the investment company Asgard. During the making of the film, the director and producer presented the project at numerous film markets and international film project competitions. The blindfolded project of the film won the Boat Meeting film project of the Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist in 2019 and won the main prize for pitching Work in Progress CoCo Cottbus at the Cottbus International Film Festival (Germany).


Contemporary Ukrainian Cinema is an association of cinematographers that aims to promote Ukrainian cinema through production and distribution. Among the members of the organization are Ukrainian feature and documentary film directors, producers, screenwriters, film critics, sound directors, designers, cameramen, composers, and production artists.
