Ukrainian director Natalia Vorozhbyt's debut feature film "Bad Roads" won the Verona Film Club Award at the 35th International Film Critics Week in Venice, a parallel program of the Venice International Film Festival.
The plot of the film consists of five short stories that tell the stories of the people of Donbass. The film is a film adaptation of the play of the same name The Fortune Teller, which was first staged in 2017 at the Royal Court Theater in London.
The Grand Prix of the International Film Critics Week in Venice went to the film "Ghosts" (Hayaletler) by Turkish director Azra Deniz Okyay, shot in a co-production of Turkey, France and Qatar. And the Mario Serandrey Award for Best Technical Contribution went to the film Topside by American directors Celine Held and Logan George.
Venice International Film Critics' Week (SIC) is an independent section held by the National Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI) in parallel with the Venice International Film Festival, held from 2 to 12 September 2020.
