On August 24, 2020, the Ukrainian Short Films database was launched - the first large-scale online library of Ukrainian short films since its inception to the present day.
The main goals of the Ukrainian Short Films database are to bring Ukrainian short films into a clearer focus of international selectors and curators, to facilitate the dialogue of Ukrainian films with world cultural institutions, and to keep Ukrainian directors' works in the focus of viewers and industry from the beginning of the 20th century. today.
"Dozens and hundreds of Ukrainian short films that thundered at film festivals either dissolved into oblivion or were posted on YouTube, where they were also lost and eventually disappeared. Creating a database of Ukrainian cinema is designed to solve this problem, "said Oleksandr Telyuk, film critic and content manager at Ukrainian Short Films.
The database is available in two language versions - Ukrainian and English (the launch of the English version is scheduled for early September 2020). Filters provide an easy search: by title, subject, director's name, year of release, duration or genre of the film.
Placement of films in the Ukrainian Short Films database for Ukrainian directors is free of charge. In case of interest, the curators will be able to communicate directly with the directors about the screenings of films on their sites.http: //bigshort.com.ua

Currently, the database has fifty films and its filling continues. At the first stage of work on the base, they analyzed the history of Ukrainian cinema and compiled a list of Ukrainian short films of all time. The next step was to select films that might be of interest to international curators. Negotiations are currently underway with the owners of the films and their inclusion in the Ukrainian Short Films.
To use the database, film professionals and critics need to be accredited on the Big Short platform (bigshort.com.ua). The waiting time for consideration of the application is 24 hours.
The database is created by the public organization Wiz-Art. The project to create the base is supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
