The European Film Academy has announced a list of 13 documentaries that have been selected by the institution's experts as nominees for the EFA Award. Among them is a co-production film of Ukraine and Lithuania – The Earth is Blue Like an Orange, directed by Iryna Tsilyk.
The world premiere of the film took place at the Sundance Independent Film Festival, where Iryna Tsilyk received a prize for directing in the World Documentary Film Competition Section. The Ukrainian premiere of the film took place as part of the DocuDays UA festival, which was held online this year, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The national offline premiere is scheduled at the Molodist Film Festival, out of competition, as a closing film. Recently, the film won another film trophy – a prize at Dokufest in Kosovo.
A special professional committee selects the tapes of the documentary section from those submitted to the Academy by the right holders. Documentary works that took part in qualifying festivals or showed high quality in a number of festival screenings, or were shown in rental in at least three European countries during the qualifying period, were eligible to apply for the award.
Currently, more than 3,800 EFA members (51 of whom are Ukrainian representatives of the film industry) will select nominees for the film award, which will be announced on November 7 at the European Film Festival in Seville, Spain. The winners will be announced and the winners of the 33rd European Film Academy Prize will be awarded on December 12, 2020 in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik.
