Natalia Vorozhbyt's film "Bad Roads" selected for the Venice International Film Critics' Week

Natalia Vorozhbyt's debut directorial work ("Catching Kaidash", "Bad Roads") will take part in the competition program of the 35th Venice International Critics' Week - a film adaptation of the play by the playwright, which takes place during the war in Donbass.

 

The film will include only five of the six short stories of the play of the same name. They are united by the theme of roads. "When I was asked to write a play about Donbass, I decided to show all the emotions and feelings I experienced there. These are short stories about people traumatized by the war, ”says the director.

 

The play was first staged at London's Royal Court Theater in October 2017. The script for the film was written at the same time. The film will tell about men and women whose lives were affected by the war. The heroes are residents of Donbass and the Ukrainian military, who are on both sides of the line of demarcation. Natalia Vorozhbyt wrote the play, collecting stories from the people of the eastern regions.

 

The film is produced by Kristi Films, led by Yuri Minzyanov. The main roles in the film are played by Andriy Lelyukh, Ihor Koltovsky, Volodymyr Hurin, Serhiy Solovyov and Zoya Baranovska.

 

Filming began in September 2019. The film was produced with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, which allocated UAH 11 million for it.

 

Venice International Film Critics' Week (SIC) is an independent section organized by the National Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI) in parallel with the Venice International Film Festival, which is to take place from 2 to 12 September 2020.

 

The previous date of the premiere of the film in Ukraine is 2020, but due to quarantine the date may change. The tape should be released only in 2021, it will be released by Arthouse Traffic.
