Based on the story of Judgment Day or Yom Kippur  by Vladimir Korolenko.

The village man Levko inherits the mill of his uncle, who drowned in the lake under mysterious circumstances. One day, through the will of fate, Levko witnesses the mystical strange disappearance of a local Jew, Jankel, and then appropriates his ham. Yankel is said to have taken the hell out of Hapun for his excessive misery in Yom Kippur. But a year later he returns, saying that he had really fled from unclean power. At this time, Levko, already a rich and noble man, completely loses his head from these ringing coins. He wants more, and more, and more. When he completely loses the capacity for compassion, friendship, and love, unclean power also reaches him. Levko can only escape if he understands his mistakes.
