An anthology of the best short films of 2022. The collection has been titled ‘Before Dawn’, which is not so much a theme as a social mood aptly captured by the filmmakers.

This collection is a kind of ‘time capsule’ documenting the first year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, as well as futuristic visions of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the future.

The anthology Ukrainian New Wave: Before Dawn includes the following films:

• The war that is always around
• Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles
• It Is Quiet Here
• Kharkiv Music Fest Did Happen
• Vision of Life
• Fortress Mariupol. Orest
• Waking Up in Silence
• Khayt
