On the outskirts of Kyiv stands an unremarkable, densely populated building — it is a centre for displaced people from the Luhansk region who have settled here ‘temporarily’. Life goes on at its own pace: in the back garden, two young boys, Rostik and Vlad, are trying to catch a mouse in a pile of leaves; two elderly ladies sit on the steps, reminiscing about their past and the now-familiar nights spent under shelling; the young residents receive identical gifts from foreign partners; and the odd neighbours sort out their ‘relationships’ amongst themselves. Life here flows at its own pace, and only strangers drop by the New Home from time to time, gradually filling it up more and more.
