A documentary story about freedom, war and the resilience of Ukrainians, told through the language of street art.
The heroes of the film are American street artists Bandit | USA, Tristan | USA, Johnny | USA and their like-minded colleague and coordinator from Ukraine, Kateryna Tymchenko – set off on a journey through a dozen Ukrainian cities during the full-scale invasion to see, feel and record how Ukraine is fighting for its freedom and dignity. Over 2.5 years, they created 33 murals that have become symbols of memory and resilience.
The main focus of the film is not only on creating graffiti – it tells the story of the inner transformation of foreign artists who witnessed and participated in the Ukrainian struggle. During filming, they visited Kyiv, Irpin, Bucha, Borodianka, Kharkiv, Izium, Kramatorsk, Kostyantynivka, Odesa, and Mykolaiv. Each of these cities appears in the film not just as a geographical point on the map, but as a profound emotional experience that changes the worldview of the street artists and forces them to rethink their values.
Art at Palianytsia takes on a new meaning: it does not seek ready-made answers, but rather becomes an impetus for reflection on humanity, freedom, and the ability to remain oneself amid the chaos of war.
