With the recording of mass crimes and abductions, we are on the verge of realising the losses suffered by indigenous peoples when their homes are taken away and they are deprived of the chance to learn who their relatives were and who they could have been.
The documentary project ‘My Crimea’ uses the stories of representatives of three indigenous peoples of Ukraine — the Kyrymly, Krymchaks and Karaites — to illustrate the facts of multiculturalism, a component of Ukrainian identity, stolen by the Russians over the years. Together with the film's protagonists, journey through years of oblivion and genocide, where the courageous spirit of resistance is recreated, helping indigenous peoples to revive their culture, preserve their traditions and find their place in the world again and again.
