The story of Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UIA) veteran Maria Shtepa, a resident of Chortkiv. As a very young girl, she joined this anti-Soviet resistance movement and carried out tasks. As a result of the betrayal, she has fallen into the hands of the NKVD, went through inhuman tortures and received 10 years in prison camps. All this time she recollects and records the stories of other prisoners and killed ones. After exile she has returned to hometown. By the will of fate at the end of her life Maria Shtepa lived in the same house where she was imprisoned and tortured. The Caritas shelter for elderly people where she lived is now based in a building of a former NKVD prison. However, the ghosts of the past only have strengthened a woman's spirit. Her purpose was to tell the stories of those who will never do it again. Maria Shtepa has become a writer and was preserving memory of all those who gave their lives for the freedom of Ukraine.
