1941. State security captain Georgy Volkov is transporting a shipment of emeralds to the Soviet Union under a trade agreement between the USSR and Germany, as well as secret documents that are more valuable than any gem. The war begins. Volkov's train is attacked by the Germans, and he is forced to flee. Georgy has to get to his people and deliver an important cargo in one piece. Volkov is closely followed by a dangerous enemy, the Abwehr agent Konrad von Butzow. They will meet more than once.
