The new case that Colonel Pogozhev takes on is dubbed ‘The Jester’. A sniper wounds the bodyguards of wealthy individuals and then blackmails them.
During the investigation, Pogozhev meets a nurse named Margarita Nikolskaya. Her son urgently needs an expensive operation. A relationship develops between Pogozhev and Nikolskaya. It takes Pogozhev a while to realise that Margo is directly involved in the investigation.
