The film depicts two worlds — peace and war — but peace is a theatre where preparatory rehearsals take place, whilst war is also a theatre, but one set against the backdrop of war. There is another world that stands apart — it is the play performed by the actors, as they reinterpret their own experiences of being touched by the war and the texts of Oleksandr Dovzhenko and contemporary Ukrainian authors. These worlds are linked by interviews with people – those who took part in the actors’ trips to the east, and the soldiers who welcomed the actors and became spectators right on the front line.
