The story of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky's tragic love for the young pole Helena Chaplinskaya.
The film's action unfolds from 1647 and shows a period of uprising of the Ukrainian Cossacks against the Polish nobility, provoked by the Chigirin sub-teen Danilo Chaplinsky, who, in the absence of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, attacked his village in Subotov, kidnapped his wife, Helenby, and his wife Helen.
