Being paralyzed at the age of three, he, in spite of everything, was able to achieve tremendous results in sports and socio-political life.
Back in Soviet times, he was able to build a professional career as a software engineer, start a family, travel and do other things that, unfortunately, remain inaccessible to many people with disabilities to this day.
And then, decades later, he led our country to the leaders of world Paralympic sports. The Ukrainian Paralympic success has been talked about in the world, our system of training athletes with disabilities has interested countries that have been developing in this direction for several decades.
Valery Sushkevych is also a fighter for accessibility for people with disabilities in Ukraine. In the early 1990s, he brought people together, and together they began to change the state's attitude toward people with disabilities, society to them, and perhaps to themselves. The slogan "Because of victories in sports to victories in life" most accurately reflects the essence of that process.
The film "Man of Freedom" will offer a look at the life of our compatriot, a figure of the Paralympic movement with international recognition, and learn the secrets of Ukrainian Paralympic success.
