According to Igor Akimov's story "The Legend of the Small Garrison".
On the first day of the German-Soviet war, young officers came under fire from the Nazis. The heroes of the film are twice captured and twice escaped from it. Returning to the rear, one of the officers, Victor, meets a random passenger on the train. The train is bombed - Victor is injured, and his new acquaintance dies, passing before his death a letter for his daughter, whom he had not seen for many years.
After the contusion, in the hospital the hero finds the addressee of the letter - the beautiful daughter of his accidental acquaintance; there is mutual sympathy between them, and then deeper feelings. But the next day after the wedding, Victor is arrested. On erroneous charges, he is sent to a penal battalion, and his young wife goes to a radio operator's school to possibly find her husband at the front.
