The main character of the film Volodymyr Balukh is a native Crimean, a Ukrainian social activist, a farmer. In 2014, after annexation of Crimea by Russia, he renounced his Russian citizenship. Back in the winter of 2013, he hung the flag of Ukraine on his home. A Russian-controlled court in Crimea sentenced him to 5 years in prison - on two criminal cases: for a fight and storage of ammunition. In the sentence, the judge read that Balukh had committed a crime in connection with his "aversion to the current system". Baluch went on hunger strike for more than 200 days in protest. Balukh's defense and human rights activists claim he was the victim of repression for his pro-Ukrainian stance - because of Ukraine's flag in the courtyard of his home.
