A former sailor Konstantin Trygubenko leads his joyless existence somewhere in suburban Odesa. He can hardly find any common ground with his hot:tempered wife Sima, who cripples their little grandson Аlyoshka with her way of upbringing. The broken heart of the former sailor aches because of the never-do-well daughter Lyubka. In the routine of everyday troubles Trygubenko fails to see the real cause of his sufferings. But one day a nice and successful lady appears in his home appears. The enlightenment comes with her.
