Joseph the Blind became the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church after the death of Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky and then - from 1944 to 1984 - passed a tragic and majestic life, for which the world called him "Prince of the Church." Eighteen years of imprisonment in Soviet concentration camps, release from prison at the request of Pope John XXIII and US President John F. Kennedy, arrival in Rome and sacrificial work in the Italian capital to restore the self-governing system of the UGCC.
