At the heart of the movie is a video about the Holocaust, collected by the Shoah Foundation in Ukraine. the people who survived 1941-1942 tell in an interview how they managed to escape from the inevitable death.

One of the heroines of the film was Ternopolyan Irina Maximov, who was 11 years old at the time of the events, told how her family helped the Jews survive. During the war, her parents spent nine months hiding in the cellar of their own home on the territory of the German General Staff of 16 Jews. For this they were recognized as righteous by the nations of the world. Directors recorded Irina Maximov's memories in 1994 in Ternopil. Speaking to her, Steven Spielberg admitted that he was very impressed with the nobility of her family.
